It’s Upon Leaders to Maintain the Workplace

If we don’t grease it, it’ll start to squeak. This applies to every aspect of your workplace, from your equipment to the people who use it. In any organization, the work environment plays a vital role in shaping the success of its people, and the quality of its products and services. Don’t neglect yours.

Our people can’t make immediate change.

When our people want change, all they can do is ask — and oftentimes they won’t. As leaders, we must constantly be looking for any issues with our processes, policies and work environment so that we can solve problems before they occur. Otherwise, things will start to break down and give us trouble as time goes on.

Workplace communication is key.

Effective communication is the cornerstone of any healthy workplace. We leaders must establish clear channels of communication that enable employees to express their thoughts, concerns, and ideas openly. By promoting open communication, we can empower our team members to collaborate better with one another, share their knowledge with each other and resolve conflicts effectively when they arise.

To encourage open communication…

  • Hold regular meetings.
  • Visit job sites and physical locations to catch up with your people.
  • Show your people that you’re listening to their feedback.
  • Communicate honestly with them to build trust.
  • Ensure your feedback is constructive.

Tell them what they’re doing right.

Recognizing and rewarding employee achievements is the most powerful motivator that we leaders can leverage to maintain a positive workplace. By acknowledging and appreciating the contributions of our team members, we can encourage their growth and development as professionals.
